Free Emoticons

You go through most of the mobile text messages, messenger chats on the computer or the message boards, all of them sport wide usage of various free emoticons. They are the perfect means of expressing whatever is there inside your heart. This will not cost you a single buck or a single word and the person on the other hand will get to know what you wish to say.

This is the core reason of the extreme popularity of these emoticons. There are many websites that provide you with thousands of emoticons which are absolutely free. There are categories like sad, angry, love, frown, smile, congratulations, hatred etc. Don’t feel disappointed if this list does not contain your favorite emoticon. There are many more that will surely have something special fro you.

History of free emoticons
The first emoticon which was the simplest form :-) was used by Mr. Scott Fahlman in the year of 1982. He added this emoticon to a bulletin message which meant that the message is not to be taken much seriously. He also used the :-( to mean the opposite. These emoticons became so popular that gradually the big internet mail and message service providers like Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL accepted them.

These are nothing but simple graphics. There are the moving emoticons which often behave like human. They will jump and smile and laugh and shout making strange faces. With these free emoticons available in various sites this has become quite easy to wish birthday to a friend or say sorry to the girlfriends. The winking emoticons are just perfect for the naughty messages.

Some of the popular emoticons
Apart from the two most common sad and happy faces, there are many more in the list of free emoticons. In fact their look and character has variation according to the country where it is being used. The Indian emoticons are different from the Japanese emoticons and western emoticons.

For an example this one- (^_^) is a classic Japanese emoticon showing smile which is far different from the classic western smiley. Do you know what this one mean- X8? This means that you are laughing hard. :-O says that you are shocked and :-*) means you are blushing.

There is no question of paying for these emoticons as they are available in all possible varieties for free. But then again if you want to hire a designer to create some unique ones for you then it will cost some money.
